The Irrelevance of Load Dynamics for the Loading Margin to Voltage Collapse and Its Sensitivities

چکیده
The loading margin to a saddle-node orfold bifurcation is a useful and basic index of proximityto voltage collapse. Sensitivities of the loading margincan be used to select controls to avoid voltage collapse. This paper justifies the use of static power models to com-pute loading margins and their sensitivities. In particular, dynamic load models may be reduced to static equationsand then simplified without affecting loading margins andtheir sensitivities. Alternatively, if dynamic models arenot well known, the computations may be done with staticmodels and conclusions drawn about a general and sensi-ble class of underlying dynamic models. Explicit assump-tions and mathematical underpinnings are presented.

The irrelevance of electric power system dynamics for the loading margin to voltage collapse and its sensitivities
The loading margin to a saddle-node or fold bifurcation measures the proximity to voltage collapse blackouts of electric power transmission systems. Sensitivities of the loading margin can be used to select controls to avoid voltage collapse. We analytically justify the use of static models to compute loading margins and their sensitivities and explain how the results apply to underlying dynami...
متن کاملOptimal Load Shedding for Voltage Stability Enhancement by Genetic Algorithm
Outage of a heavily loaded transmission line or tripping of large generating unit may lead the system toward collapse. Under such circumstances, compared to other measures, load shedding procedure is an efficient method to make the power system voltage stable when many system variables are out of their normal ranges and the system is driven toward collapse. This paper introduces the concept of ...
متن کاملContingency Ranking for Voltage Collapse via Sensitivities from a Single Nose Curve
The change in the loading margin to voltage collapse when line outages occur is estimated. First a nose curve is computed by continuation to obtain a nominal loading margin. Then linear and quadratic sensitivities of the loading margin to each contingency are computed and used to estimate the resulting change in the loading margin. The method is tested on a critical area of a 1390 bus system an...

متن کاملComparison between Alternative Load Path Method and a Direct Applying Blast Loading Method in Assessment of the Progressive Collapse
Extensive research has been focused on the progressive collapse analysis of buildings and most of them are based on the alternative path method (APM) with sudden removal of one or several columns. However, in this method the damage of adjacent elements of removed columns under blast conditions was ignored and this issue can lead to an incorrect prediction of progressive collapse. Therefore, in ...
